Te Arai | Dune House

A far cry from the traditional white, sunny beach and bright sky perspective usually depicted by a project of this character and context, this render attempts to communicate the gentle nesting of the project within the sand dunes of a secluded beach along the east coast of New Zealand Aotearoa’s North Island.

Created at the early stages of the design process, the render illustrates the design intent in a comprehensive, succinct way and all within a single image. A range of camera angles were initially considered with the least obvious option ultimately proving the most captivating. The house is presented in its elegant form, geometrically juxtaposed with the tall pines, but remaining in close relationship with its environment.

The use of a reserved colour palette, subdued lighting, and simple composition captures the essence of the project; conveying the message as a whisper rather than a shout.
